I realized that I had been thinking of the fruit of the Spirit (in Galatians 5) as a target to attain, things to try to do, or attributes to try to develop in my life. But as we allow the Spirit to work in us, he grows these attributes in us, just like a tree that naturally develops and produces fruit in the right season. That's so releasing! We don't have to 'try', we just need to 'allow' the Holy Spirit to work in us.
I have also been struck by Colossians 3:15 "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."
We don't have to 'try' to be peaceful; we just need to 'allow' the Spirit to give us peace. We can choose peace by letting Christ rule in our lives. Let's choose peace, and be thankful!
May you know the power of the Holy Spirit at work in you, bringing you to fruitfulness in the gifts of the Spirit, and may you choose peace today.
