In this Holy Week, I have been reflecting on what Jesus accomplished on the cross: the restoration of our relationship with God, with one another and with the world. I'm left thinking, how can we show this as community and particularly as home groups?
If we are living upwards, inwards and outwards as disciples, we will naturally reflect these values when we come together as a home group. To put it another way, the nature of our Up, In and Out as a home group will depend on how well we are leaning into Up, In and Out in our own day-to-day life.
So this triangle can also illustrate our home group: we gather to worship God (Up), we love and serve one another (In) and we reach out to world (Out).
As a home group, we might find that we feel more comfortable with one or two values (Up, In or Out) but not necessarily all three of them. So, for example, we might feel comfortable with worshipping God together (Up) and serving somewhere together as a group (Out), but we might not be getting to know each other well (In).
Or we might be comfortable with spending time and serving somewhere together (In and Out), but not spending time worshipping God together (Up).
Or we might find that as a home group we are comfortable with worshipping God and spending time together (Up and In) but find reaching out to others difficult or uncomfortable (Out).
As a home group, how can we create more of a balance of Up/In/Out?
How can we reflect more fully the life on offer to all in Jesus?
